Pokémon Of The Week: Meowth!

Here are the previous ‘Pokémon of the Week’ winners.

After a two-week hiatus, ‘Pokémon of the Week’ is back! Hooray!

This week’s winner is none other than Meowth!

Meowth is a Normal type Pokémon, and evolves into Persian at level 28. Meowth is weak only to Fighting types, immune to Ghost types, and damaged regularly by all other types. The bane of being a Normal type is that Normal types are not super-effective against any type, and Ghost type is also immune to Normal type. Per Smogon, Meowth is not used very often competitively in Little Cup (the tier used by ‘first stage’ Pokémon). Nonetheless, we don’t love Meowth because of it’s (lack of) competitive ability.

Here is a brief summation of Meowth from Bulbapedia:

Meowth is a small, feline Pokémon with cream-colored fur that turns brown at the tips of its hind paws and tail. Its ovoid head features four prominent whiskers, wide eyes with slit pupils, and a gold oval coin embedded in its forehead. Its ears are black with brown interiors, and are flanked with an additional pair of long whiskers. Meowth is a quadruped with the ability to walk on its hind legs; while the games always depict Meowth on two legs, the anime states that Meowth normally walks on all fours. It can freely manipulate its claws, retracting them when it wants to move silently. The tip of its tail curls tightly.

That’s the relative summation of all other Meowth, including the Team Rocket Meowth from the anime below:

This Meowth is different than any other Meowth in (known) Pokémon existence! Why? Because it can talk! (What Pokémon fan didn’t know that, though?) Here is the anime Meowth’s back story from Bulbapedia (it’s rather heartbreaking):

Meowth’s earliest memory is being alone at Camp Pokéhearst. With no food, he was always starving, and tipped over a basket of baseballs believing it was food. As punishment for tipping the basket over, the baseball coach hung him from a tree; from this tree, he was able to see a movie called That Darn Meowth!, which depicted a Meowth in Hollywood being given delicious food by its family. Meowth instantly decided to go to Hollywood, which he believed would be a paradise.

However, when he arrived in Hollywood, he was merely a stray Pokémon, and was constantly being chased for stealing food. Soon, a Meowth gang, led by a Persian, took him in. Meowth lived on the streets as a member of the gang for a long time; the gang annoyed the humans in town, stealing food and causing trouble in general. One day, Meowth came across a female Meowth named Meowzie. She rejected him, saying that he was poor and that she preferred humans, so Meowth attempted to make himself more human-like to make her love him. Thus, he painstakingly taught himself to speak human language and walk upright like a human. When he approached her after this transformation, she once again rejected him, calling him a freak. Heartbroken, Meowth remembered the first human word he learned to speak—”rocket”—and was inspired to join Team Rocket.

Though Team Rocket’s Meowth has evil intentions, I have always had a soft spot for him because of his rather depressing backstory. What’s your opinion on this particular Meowth?

As with every Pokémon of the week, I am including artwork from an artist on deviantArt! This week’s artist is Iza-nagi (check out their page!) and as usual all artwork and credit belongs to them!

I selected this artwork because I believe Jesse and James are a part of the Meowth we all know and love! (Source)

  7. Out of curiosity, how many followers do you have?

    • A little over 125 if I remember correctly.

    • cool, have any tips on blogging? I’ve only been doing it for a month or to so since you obviously have been doing it longer I thought I could learn a thing or two

    • Sure.

For page views I will occasionally use ‘Stumbleupon.com’ and add an article every so often to it. I don’t do this every day, though, because it will refuse a link to your page if you use it too much – you can pay for views through stumbleupon, but I don’t think its worth paying for page views unless you’re getting compensated.

Use the WordPress Reader and follow people with similar interests about Pokémon and video games, or whatever. Comment on a lot of different articles with constructive statements, not just ‘Cool!’ or ‘Neat!’ Make sure you say what’s ‘cool’ about it. Also, include ‘related articles’ that have ‘.wordpress.com’ in their URL for your posts so that people on WordPress will come to your page to check out what they were included in on!

And post on other forums (there’s plenty of video game and Pokémon forums), but make sure to not over post on forums about your blog, and make sure they allow that sort of thing.

      Hope that helps!

    • That helped a lot, thanks

  8. =D Great post, and thanks very much for sharing mine! Yeah, Mew sounds great! God bless! =D

  9. OMG, thanks so much for mentioning about my blog, it looks like you’ve been blogging for a lot longer than me so more people might check out my blog if they follow yours (not everybody but at least a few)
